Taylor Swift Shuts Down A Sexist Magazine Story: ‘We Need Feminism In 2015′

on the mtv webpage, One of the most aggravating parts about being a woman of childbearing age — and yeah, I’m speaking from experience — is everyone from family members to people you barely know asking personal questions about when you may or may not be planning on having children. And for celebrities like Taylor Swift, this invasion of privacy extends (massively) to gossip columnists and magazines speculating that you might be literally expecting each time you eat a plate of ribs at a summer barbecue.
This must be incredibly irritating, so kudos to Tay-Swizzle for not allowing OK! Magazine to get away with a clickbait tweet making it seem like she was pregnant — when really, all she’d done was pose for a photo with a couple of fans who were expecting:
The “misleading headline” part speaks for itself, but the “choice of words in labeling me” part refers to the fact that the story literally introduces her as “Harry Styles’ ex-girlfriend” in its sub-headline and “Calvin Harris’ rumored girlfriend” after that.
Taylor’s feelings about this everyday misogyny were echoed two weeks ago by Ariana Grande, who wrote an inspiring Twitter essay saying that repeated stories that referred to her as Big Sean’s ex made her feel “tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present, or future property/possession.”
Hopefully, if enough famous, powerful women keep calling this kind of behavior out, it will trickle down and have a positive affect on the rest of us. A girl can dream.
A real go-getter.

Meek Mill’s Moving Letter About Fatherhood Will Make You Call Your Dad

Meek Mill’s Moving Letter About Fatherhood Will Make You Call Your Dad

Acccording to Time, Meek Mill is gearing up for the release of his new album Dreams Worth More Than Money, but the MMG MC also celebrated Father’s Day in grand style. This was the word of the Philly rapper in is op-ed for Time about fatherhood (Jun. 19), .
“As a father, now I get to give my son the life I never had,” Mill said. “I love my son with all my heart, and I would do anything for him. It’s a crazy feeling knowing that I will help him become a great man.”
While Mill celebrates fatherhood now, he couldn’t always enjoy Father’s Day growing up because of his dad’s tragic death.
“I never had a strong male figure in my life,” he said. “I didn’t have that person to teach me things fathers teach their sons because my father was killed when I was young. It was just me, my mom, and my sister, so I had to be the man of the house. When I was younger, I remember being able to speak to my father and then in the blink of an eye, he was gone.
“My mom played the role of both mom and dad,” he added. “We had nothing growing up, so my mom worked any job she could find to provide for me and my sister. I love her so much for that. But as much as I appreciated everything my mother did for me, she couldn’t fill the space that a father should hold in a child’s life.”
The tragedy of his father’s death – which is described on Meek’s 2012 song “Traumatized” – now serves as a reminder of how meaningful quality time with his son is. “Growing up without a father made me realize just how special time is with my son and how much of an impact I can have on his life,” he said.
Amen.

Buhari finally set for work; to merge EFCC & ICPC, others to go

* 50 agencies of government to be scrapped
After three weeks of consultations with international and Nigeria’s leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari is finally set to effect major changes in the administration of the country in a bid to translate the ‘change’ mantra of his party into reality.

To start the big job, the President is said to have accepted the recommendation of the transition committee he raised a few weeks ago to slash the number of ministries from the present 42 to 19 with a view to saving cost and making them more effective and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.

In the same vein, many of the ministries have been merged to ensure proper coordination of duties and ensure greater efficiency and service delivery.
A Presidency source hinted,”But the point being made is that relevant MDAs that will exist under the present administration must be those backed by laws. What that means is that the era of doing things the wrong way to please certain persons in positions of power is over.”

The source told Vanguard that the number of Federal Government departments and agencies had also been trimmed in line with the policy of the administration.

Effectively, it means that no fewer than 50 of the MDAs that were not backed by relevant laws might be scrapped and their staff moved into relevant departments to save cost.

Shedding light on the ministries that had been merged, the official pointed out that the Ministry of Aviation and relevant agencies had been subsumed with Inland Waterways and associated agencies.

Similarly, the Ministry of Agriculture has been merged with that of Water Resources under what the Presidency source described as the consolidation of larger ministries.

It was learnt that under the administration of Buhari, only 19 ministers and 17 ministers of state would operate as opposed to the previous arrangement where there were at least 42.

It was further gathered that some ministries would be run by senior ministers while others would be manned by junior ministers to save cost.

On the fight against corruption, the source disclosed to Sunday Vanguard that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is to be merged with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to tackle graft in a new way that would be prompt, fearless and decisive.

A top source said Buhari was expected to make some key appointments this week so as to get the machinery of his administration running. Excerpt from the vanguard newspaper

In the wake of the Charleston, South Carolina church shooting, it’s been difficult to find words that properly express the grief we all feel. So when words won’t work, it’s perhaps best to simply remember the victims’ lives with sympathy.
That’s the tone Beyoncé struck when she posted a moving tribute video on Instagram that lets silence speak volumes.
The clip shows a black-and-white photo of the church as the victims of the nine people shot and killed in the massacre flash across the screen one-by-one: Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Rev. DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, Tywanza Sanders, Myra Thompson, Rev Daniel Simmons Sr., and Rev. Sharonda Singleton.
Beyoncé captioned the simple but powerful video, “My heart is with the families, loved ones, and all of those affected by the senseless tragedy in Charleston. May they rest in peace.”
On Friday, 21-year-old Dylann Roof was charged with nine counts of murder in connection with the attack, which took place at the Emanual African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston on Wednesday (June 17).

Marcc Rose as Tupac in a new film adaptation

A Tupac-look alike, Marcc Rose will play the fallen rap icon in a soon to be revealed hotly anticipated N.W.A. movie.

From the reports from mtv entertainment news, the filmmakers behind the upcoming “Straight Outta Compton” this week revealed who’ll take on Tupac’s heavy mantle and, surprise, he really looks like ’Pac.

On before now  only little was known at all yet about Rose — age, previous acting credits.

A handful of media outlets have also noted the resemblance, and Rose posted a screenshot of a few of the side-by-side comparisons to his IG account. The eerie juxtaposition, as you can see from the photos above.

In a photo from Rose's online album, one of his pics is placed along that of the rap icon 2pac and the similarity is striking.

This past Tuesday, Ice Cube’s gave an interesting announcement about the new movie, which chronicles N.W.A’s formative years, and he confirmed there would be at least one scene involving ’Pac. Cube captioned a throwback photo: “Happy Birthday to the homie Tupac. Shooting the Tupac scene for ’Straight Outta Compton’ today. The stars are aligned.”

The movie has an August 14 release date but fans can catch Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Dr. Dre when they band together for a reunion performance during this year’s BET Awards on June 27. All of these original members will also be in the film.Hope you is fans savour all packed fun.
